Unknown and varying shelf-life is the root cause of fresh produce food waste. OneThird has developed a method to predict shelf-life of fresh produce objectively and in real-time. They’re using an AI-based infra-red scanner together with smart phone imaging and a smart data information platform. A fully digital quality assessment of fresh produce; enabling real-time decision power to growers, distributors and retailers to get the right product to the right place at the right time. Since 2019, OneThird has validated their system for soft fruits and exotic fruits at Tier-1 retail supply chains in Europe and North America! Resulting in 50% labor reduction and 25% food waste reduction. Saving millions of euros/year in costs and providing a direct contribution to the SDG12.3 goals of halving food waste by 2030.
